Why won't my EV charger charge my car?

An EV charger that suddenly stops delivering power is, more often than not, a tripped breaker or GFCI on the charger's dedicated 240-volt circuit, which cuts the unit dead until you reset it. Walk to the panel, flip the double-pole breaker fully off then on, and press any GFCI reset on the equipment before you assume the charger or the car has failed. If power is confirmed and it still will not charge, a fault code on the unit or in its app usually names the next culprit.
Safety first: an EV charger runs on a 240-volt, 40-to-50-amp circuit, enough current to injure you, so never open the unit's wiring compartment or the panel's dead-front cover with power on. Why does my EV charge at a public station but not at home?
That split points squarely at your home setup, not the car. If a public fast charger or a friend's Level 2 unit charges the battery normally, the car and its onboard charger are fine, and the fault lives in your home circuit, connector, or wall unit. Start at the panel with the breaker, then reseat and inspect the home connector for corrosion or a bent pin. A car that charges everywhere except your garage is almost always looking at a tripped circuit or a dirty, damaged plug.
Is it normal for my EV to charge slower in winter?
Yes, and it is not a fault. A cold lithium battery accepts current slowly to protect itself, so on a freezing morning you may see reduced amps or a brief pause while the pack warms. Preconditioning the car before you unplug, or scheduling charging for milder hours, restores most of the speed. Expect noticeably slower charging below freezing and a bigger hit near 0 degrees. If the rate is normal in summer and only drags in the cold, the weather is the cause, not the equipment.
Can a GFCI keep tripping my EV charger for no reason?
A GFCI that trips repeatedly is reacting to something, even if you cannot see it. Moisture in an outdoor receptacle, a damp connector, or a genuine ground fault in the cable will all trip it, and the answer is to dry and clean the connection, not to swap in a non-GFCI breaker. Should I reset the breaker more than once if the charger cuts out?

But a breaker or GFCI that trips again within seconds of resetting is detecting a real fault, and forcing repeated resets can overheat the connection.
