Why do EV charger outlets melt?
Because a NEMA 14-50 outlet built for an occasional RV hookup is being asked to pass 40A continuously for hours. Cheap outlets use spring contacts that loosen and heat as they cycle through daily charging; a loose lug or backstab connection makes it worse. Is a hardwired charger safer than a plug-in one?
