Why will my snow blower not start?
Nine times out of ten it is fuel. Gas left in the tank over summer, especially ethanol blends, breaks down and gums the carburetor so the engine cannot draw a clean charge. Start by draining the old fuel and adding fresh, check that the choke and fuel valve are open, and inspect the spark plug for fouling. If fresh fuel and a new plug still will not fire, the carburetor likely needs cleaning. The service schedule heads off most of this.
Should I drain the gas or use a stabilizer over summer?
Either works if you commit to it. Draining the tank and running the carburetor dry leaves nothing to varnish, which is the surest method for long storage. Adding a fuel stabilizer and running the engine a few minutes to circulate it also works and keeps the fuel system wet and ready. What kills machines is doing neither, leaving half a tank of untreated pump gas to sour for eight months and clog everything downstream.
How do I safely clear a clogged chute?
Shut the engine off, wait for the auger and impeller to stop completely, and only then clear the packed snow with the plastic clean-out tool clipped to the housing, never with your hand or foot. Even with the engine off, a wound-up impeller can spring loose the instant the jam is freed and take a finger with it. Keep the chute moving in wet, heavy snow so it never packs, and never walk away with the engine running.
