What neglect costs
A clogged gutter overflows, and that water goes exactly where you do not want it. In summer it rots the fascia and soffit and finds its way behind the siding; in winter it feeds ice dams that push meltwater under the shingles. Downspouts that dump at the wall soak the foundation. Packed with wet debris, the troughs also sag and tear the fascia, so gutters pull away from the house. How often should gutters be cleaned?

Why do my gutters overflow even after cleaning?
If the troughs are clear and water still pours over the edge, the usual culprits are a clogged downspout, gutters pitched the wrong way so water pools instead of draining, or simply undersized gutters for a big or steep roof.
